So it wasn’t the baby

Last week I totally blamed Adrian for my lack of sleep. I do think he was hitting a developmental growth spurt and it has passed now. He wasn’t napping well and learned tons of things in a short period of time.

But me not sleeping at night, well, it turns out it wasn’t the baby.

I started not being able to sleep. At all. I was up until 3:30 am Friday night and up at 6:30. I just couldn’t sleep. It was crazy. I was tired.

Then Jamie figured out the culprit. I had started having those lovely seasonal allergies and started taking Claritin. I was taking it at bedtime. I switched to taking it in the morning and the sleeplessness disappeared.

At the same time, Ani was having trouble going to sleep as well and always looked really tired. We switched her Claritin to the morning as well and she’s been sleeping well again.

It’s nice to get sleep AND have relief from the seasonal allergies. I’m just glad it was a quick and easy fix!

I really don’t love developmental growth spurts

Ani used to hit developmental growth spurts hard. Cameron and Fritz weren’t too bad. Adrian’s turning out to be like Ani. He sleeping poorly, fussy, and wants to constantly practice his new skills.

In the last week, Adrian has taken a couple steps here and there, learned to wave, started saying “hi” and “mama” at appropriate times and with correct meaning, and has learned which big bucket is the weak spot in our makeshift stair gate. His new abilities are great and he’s so pleased with himself, but I’d really like to go back to him waking only once a night again. I’m tired!
