We finished the 2017-18 school year on May 25th. This has been an amazing year. We learned so much all year and the fourth quarter was no exception.

In history, we learned about medieval China and Japan, Pacific peoples, American peoples, the Renaissance, and explorers. In Geography, we learned about China, Micronesia, Canada, Italy, and the Caribbean Sea. In Science, we learned about electricity, circuits, technology, magnetism, and motors. In the arts, we learned about Asian arts, Pacific Island arts, Indian legends, and Renaissance art. We started every day by watching CNN 10 and then working on grammar and spelling using The Nose Tree.

Cameron learned about more elements of poetry. He read The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Kula Keiki Ali’i, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West, The Feud that Sparked the Renaissance, and Columbus: Lies of a New World. He continued learning about personal finance both at home and in a weekly class at church. His grades were great:

Fritz learned more logical fallacies and made a reference lapbook of all 28 fallacies he learned this year that he’ll be able to use in his further studies next year. He learned more Latin vocabulary and has done a whole lot of translating. He continued working on learning to play the piano and improving his drawing skills. He wrote several essays about short stories and completed the year by writing a much longer research report. He read Chinese Fairy Tales, Ancient China, Call It Courage, Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison, The Second Mrs. Gioconda, and Where Do you Think You’re Going Christopher Columbus? In math, he continued preparing for pre-algebra and did a whole unit on statistics. Along with his little brother, he completed studying the Book of Mormon. He also finished reading the actual Book of Mormon on his own. He started learning how to code and has made quite a few little games in Scratch. His grades were excellent:

Adrian narrated several of passages from books. He read Night of the Ninjas, Ninjas and Samurai, High Tide in Hawaii, If You Lived With the Indians of the Northwest Coast, Along Came Galileo, and You Wouldn’t Want To Sail With Christopher. He continued learning to play the piano and to speak Spanish. He started learning about decimals and changing to fractions to decimals and back again. His grades were excellent:
