Week 11 of school we learned about light using Layers of Learning, year 3 unit 7.
We designed an experiment to prove that light travels in a straight line.
We found transparent, translucent, and opaque things.
We discovered that light shining through a prism still makes the temperature rise (2 degrees in 2 minutes).
We watched several YouTube videos.
We cooked a chocolate bar in the microwave for about 30 seconds until two spots started to melt and then we measured the distance between them to learn the approximate half length of the waves made by our microwave (135mm). (And, yes, I totally cleaned the microwave before we did this experiment. As it turns out, microwaving a cup of lemon water for 5 minutes really does make it super easy and fast to clean the inside of a microwave!)
